industries that have achieved great success

While Clarendon County is the perfect location for many types of companies, there are a few industries in particular that have found a niche and achieved great success here.

A central location, extensive transportation infrastructure, and a highly productive workforce prepared by one of the nation’s best training programs all make Clarendon County the perfect place for automotive, building products, distribution, and metalworking companies.

Clarendon County also has all the benefits of the Port of Charleston and the Port of Savannah, with less traffic and congestion, lower land costs, and abundant workers who are eager for jobs.

AUTOMOTIVE

Clarendon County offers easy access to the 12 automotive and all-terrain vehicle assembly plants within an eight-hour drive. Plus, the county is well-positioned to benefit from Central South Carolina’s growing automotive cluster, which includes Michelin, Siemens VDO, PBR, Modine, Dana, Bose, and American Koyo.

Clarendon County industries can access a Foreign Trade Zone through the Port of Charleston. This zone offers substantial cost-saving advantages for companies that import or export manufactured raw materials or products. There are many benefits to a Foreign Trade Zone:

BUILDING PRODUCTS

For many years, Clarendon County has been quietly establishing itself as a strategic home for companies that manufacture and supply building products. The county’s existing building products industry includes Trimaco (paint sundries), Georgia Pacific, and A&K Cypress.

DISTRIBUTION

With such an extensive transportation infrastructure for shipping goods by road, rail, air, or sea—including I-95, the Port of Charleston, and four airports within an hour—it's easy to see why Clarendon County provides an excellent opportunity for distribution companies. Companies that have chosen the Central South Carolina region for their distribution facilities include UPS, Food Lion, and Target.

METALWORKING

Clarendon County has an offer metalworking companies can’t afford to miss: Buildings, machinery, and workers as a package deal.

Heavy fabricators and manufacturers with die casting operations have a rare opportunity to purchase turnkey facilities in Clarendon County that could be up and running within weeks. Not only are these buildings fully equipped and tailored to the metalworking industry, but a skilled labor pool—including highly skilled welders—stands ready to begin work immediately.
