Santee Cooper, South Carolina's largest provider of electricity and America's fourth largest public power utility, produces power at the lowest cost in South Carolina. The utility provides retail power to 34 large industries and 130,000 customers. In addition, the utility wholesales power to 20 electric cooperatives and two municipalities. With 27 generating units and access to hydro power from the Southeastern Power Administration (SEPA) and the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Santee Cooper has a combined power supply capability of 3,917 megawatts with a projected capability of 4,767 megawatts in 2002. Santee Cooper's generation is a healthy mix of coal, nuclear, natural gas, hydroelectric and oil.

Black River Electric Cooperative serves the rural areas of Clarendon, Kershaw, Lee and Sumter counties in South Carolina. Generally speaking, Black River service territory is bordered on the east by the Lynches River and on the west by the Wateree River. Service begins at the northern Kershaw County line and continues south to the Santee Lakes including portions of Clarendon County. Economic Development is a cornerstone of the Cooperative's philosophy. Through its subsidiary, the Black River Economic Development Corporation, the Cooperative actively recruits and promotes industry in the area.
